Altered Book project

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a page for my altered book class, and I'd love to share it with you!  It's a collaged tunnel page, and you'll need about 40 pages of a book to make this project. 

Let's get started!  First, you'll draw out a square on the right side of your pages, use a cutting mat under the pages, and cut out the square with a box cutter.  Do a few pages at a time, that will make it easier to make a straight cut. 

Then I took some dye ink pads and a foam sponge.  The page inside the tunnel I sponged with green, the top pages with pink.  I used a swirl die cut, ran it through my cutting machine, and used the negative image (mortise) to sponge some swirls over the top in the same pink. 

Use a glue stick to glue all of the cut pages together, smooth out with a bone folder (or old credit card!)  as you go.  When your text block is all glued, use a gold leafing pen on the inside of the cut square.  I also leafed the swirl to use in my background. 

Choose some clip art images, or use your own photos for the collaged shadow box.  I cut out a fairy and a rose from printed art sheets, and glued them to some chipboard for strengh.  Use Zip Dry, or a white glue to put down the swirl, then some foam tape behind the fairy image to raise her up a bit. 

I then stamped and embossed butterflies with black pigment ink and clear embossing powder.  Then paint them in with Smooch colors, it's hard to choose, there are so many gorgeous colors! 

Cut out the butterflies, and use Zip Dry to add them to your pages.  I made some wire antennae for the butterflies, just glued underneath with Zip Dry.  Add the rose image over the top of the shadow box.  Last, but never least (!)  you can add glitter glue to the edges of the images to make everybody sparkle!
